One of the most popular dining programs around the Seattle metro area is back and we’re already half way through it!!! Check out the Dine Around Seattle website to get more details of this fantastic program…. some of the most fantastic restaurants in our fine city are on the list so you won’t want to miss it. Many will need reservations as this program makes for busy nights all week long at the restaurants.

Yummy! Getting dinner out at Armondo's!!!

Our previous business and real estate attorney, Berrie Martinis, and her husband are meeting us in the old town section of downtown Renton at Armondo’s for dinner. The nice part is that they’ll be able to use the From Your Friends program coupon that we send out to our clients and receive $15 off their dinner ticket tonight. :) This restaurant has been in business about the same amount of time that I have lived in Washington (20 years) so it’s been cool to see it continue to flourish and thrive.

The Italian food is very good and these same restaurateurs are also the owners of Melrose Grill just across the intersection from their original venture.

Continuously rediscovering Renton…

I’ve been meaning to get to these posts for some time after starting out last year with the initial news of moving back to Renton. Being here a year now has opened up my eyes to a lot of the changes that are occurring in this town and to some of the fun discoveries that we can come across when we take ourselves out of our everyday routine.

Today, we needed to run some errands including going to The Landing to pick up a new toaster at Target. While parked there, we planned to take our dogs on a walk over to Gene Coulon park. Having not been there for the first whole year we’ve been back in the area, we were surprised to learn that it is not dog friendly and you cannot walk your dogs in the park. So, undaunted for a walk, we went around a route that we’d not been on before and it gave us the opportunity to find what had been a source of interest for us. Coffee. Specifically, it was a roaster of coffee called Distant Lands Coffee Roaster.

Michael and I had noticed for months that as we would drive south from Bellevue to Renton that we could smell coffee roasting (obviously, in big batches) but we could never find the source. Well, today we found it.

More great wine events opened up at Seattle Uncorked

A friend of mine, David LeClaire, is the founder of Seattle Uncorked, which has also now debuted its cousin of Portland Uncorked as well. He’s always got new and fun events going on that are all about wine and wine related elements - such as a decadent cooking with chocolate event coming up. If you are interested in wine but don’t want to join a group that is not snobbish about wine, but rather celebrates it, then this might be the ticket for you!

David’s latest newsletter had talk of his recent travels to Canada’s Okanogan area and he’s ready to share his wealth of knowledge that he’s brought back with him. Check it out, and CHEERS!

Working with Team Reba is your Passport to saving money…

Another benefit we like to provide our clients once they’ve closed a transaction with us is to send out a closing gift. Rather than the usual real estate marketing that we see such as flowers and a bottle of wine, etc, we like to help our clients save money. Buying and selling a home is a costly proposition no matter how you look at it, so if we can help out in other areas of the household budget we’re happy to do it.

Enter the Passport Unlimited program…

Team Reba buys a 1 year membership to the program and clients are welcome to renew their membership if they find it to be a valuable item in their wallet. Basically, the program works like this: We sign you up and a membership card shows up in the mail (it’s the size of a credit card). When used at the various participating businesses the card will provide with a variety of discount possibilities. For restaurants it usually means a free entree when one is purchased or a 20% discount if dining single. Some places even offer a discount for take out orders. There is also a services section of the program which can give discounts on a variety of household services like carpet cleaning, handyman services, travel discounts and more!

So, if the costs of travel outside the country don’t have you using your regular passport so frequently - if you do business with us, you can use a Passport of a different kind that helps you save money. And that brings up my last rave about this program - it’s available in a variety of states so if you’re a west coaster here in Seattle and you travel up and down the coast for work or pleasure, you’ll find ways to expand your use of the card easily. Other areas are available for viewing on the Passport website.

Who says ActiveRain is a waste of time?

Ok, I’ll admit that when I first learned about ActiveRain I had some healthy skepticism for it. With so many programs within the REALTOR(R) Association where a designation gave you access to a pool of agents nationally, or a broker affiliation might provide it, or some kind of combination thereof - I thought, “what does this site have to offer me?” Or, as it used to be put when I was in corporate work - the WIIFM factor - “what’s in it for me?”

So, I finally decided after having a relatively bare agent profile on the site for several months to go ahead and start networking on it. I’ll say right now that so far I am relatively pleased with the results. It seems a lot of people do read the stuff that gets written on there and now I must say my competitive side of me is kicking in and I want to be number one in the Seattle spot. I’m pretty sure if I converted my location to Renton (where my home office is) I’d be number one at this point based on the scoring system they use.

Anyhow, another *sort of* benefit is that a new business opportunity listing we’re co-brokering with another agent in our office (Robin Tomazic) got picked up by a local blogger for the area where it is located - Georgetown. You can see the blog post here. Hey, buddy, thanks for helping us advertise! We’d like to find a wonderful new owner for the restaurant and bar who will be as supportive of the community as you are.

A new restaurant in Renton gives us “little bites” from Asia and all under $10 apiece!

While sending out a note to a friend of mine, David LeClaire, a local sommelier who is now running SeattleUncorked wine club, I stumbled up a new restaurant find in the (Le) Renton area.

The new place is called Blossom Asian Bistro and, oddly enough, they were recommended on the Red House Beer and Wine website (this was the place I was recommending to David initially). Perhaps there is an ownership interest there? It doesn’t really say.

(update: it IS co-owned by some folks from Red House and the restaurant group involved)

One of the great things I found out on the Blossom website is that nothing on their menu is over $10. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me! Come on down to “Le Renton” and check out yet another lovely addition to our downtown restaurant community.

They even have a 4-6pm Happy Hour as well where all the food bites are under $4 and certain adult beverages range from $2-5. Sounds pretty “happy” to me…
